What you will learn

  • Course Summary

  • Skin diseases are often complex and difficult to diagnose and manage. We as dermatologists have operated within a paradigm of pathophysiologic diagnosis and differential diagnosis differentiating between infectious, neoplastic, inflammatory, allergic and genetic processes. Quite often our patients present a challenge when they do not fit into these defined categories or do not respond to conventional therapeutics. Many times a functional approach is what is missing in our care for these patients. In this talk I hope to offer an insight as to how dermatologists think about skin disease and how we can improve upon this paradigm with an integrative and functional approach including influences stress, HPA axis dysfunction, diet and lifestyle approaches.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    • Review current approaches to skin disease within current medical paradigm
    • Analyze a functional medicine approach and apply it to our care and management of patients with skin disease
    • Cite examples of inflammatory skin disease and their approach using a functional medicine approach

Course includes:

  • Video recording
  • Downloadable audio
  • Speaker handout(s)
  • 1 Quiz
