Your Brain on Food: Nutrition for the Mind
This presentation will highlight specific foods and phytochemicals that support brain health and those that may promote deterioration. It will examine the potential adverse effects of nutrient deficiencies, as well address how inflammatory and cardiovascular issues can negatively affect the brain.

Mary Purdy, MS, RDN
About Mary
Mary Purdy, MS, RDN, CD holds a Master's Degree from Bastyr University and ran a successful private practice for eight years working with hundreds of patients before coming to biotech start-up company, Arivale in 2015. Currently she works as a Coach and Clinical Education Lead providing a personalized medicine approach that takes into account nutritional genetics, blood analyte biomarkers, microbiome and salivary cortisol for its clients. The coaching at Arivale takes a long-term, integrative approach where dietitians address diet, physical activity, stress, sleep, and supplementation.
Mary previously served as an adjunct professor at Bastyr University and was a clinical supervisor at the Bastyr teaching clinic from 2010-2016. Additionally, she has provided wellness presentations at businesses and local organizations around Seattle including continuing credit lectures given to the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Greater Seattle Dietetic Association and the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine dietetic practice group (DIFM).
She has been interviewed on Seattle television and public radio, quoted in magazine articles and health blogs including Prevention, Today's Dietitian, Experience Life and Natural Health. She is also the host of the web series and podcast “Mary’s Nutrition Show” and author of “Serving the Broccoli Gods.” She helped to revise and update the Environmental Toxins, Exposure, and Elimination Module of the Certificate of Training Program offered by The Academy Center for Lifelong Learning and co-authored the Diet Appendix for The Anti-Inflammatory Diet chapter for the 14th ed. of Krause's Food & The Nutrition Care Process. A leader in the dietetics field, she serves as the current Chair of DIFM and Past President of the Greater Seattle Dietetic Association.
