Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPE/CP) is a model of education that will change how we educate in healthcare. This presentation will discuss a broad range of topics in IPE/CP including the broader trends in the US healthcare system, needs of the 21st Century, how to teach IPE/CP in the classroom, history of IPE/CP in the USA, and course development of IPE/CP for interprofessional integrative providers.

What is this course about?

Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPE/CP) is a model of education that will change how we educate in healthcare. The broader trends in the US healthcare system and needs of the 21st Century will be discussed, including how IPE/CP is ideally presented in the classroom, at the health professional educational institutions and in healthcare systems. Topics will include the history of IPE/CP in the USA, the impact of the 2010 Lancet publication on ‘Training Health Professionals for the 21st Century,” which called for major changes in health professional education and practice, the creation of the National Academy of Medicine’s Global Forum for Innovations in Health Professional Education” in 2012 to specifically focus on IPE/CP, and IPE/CP courses currently available to health professionals. Finally the IPE/CP course being developed by the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM) that will focus on IPE/CP for integrative health & medicine professionals and meeting the Triple (and Quadruple) Aim will be presented.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 
The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. All other healthcare professionals completing this activity will be issued a certificate of participation. 
To successfully earn credit, participants must review the content, complete a quiz with a score of 75% or higher, and submit an evaluation. This course is CME-eligible ending on October 31, 2024. After this date, you will continue to have access to your purchased content, however you will no longer be able to claim CME credits for your participation in the course.

Meet Your Faculty

Elizabeth (Liza) Goldblatt, PhD, MHA/PA

Elizabeth (Liza) Goldblatt, PhD, MPA/HA, is the Director of National and Global Projects with the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM). Dr. Goldblatt represents AIHM/ACIH Council at the National Academy of Medicine Division of Health and Medicine (formerly the IOM) Global Forum on Innovations for Health Professional Education. She is currently the facilitator representing AIHM/ACIH Council on the development of a global/national course that will support the advancement of interprofessional, collaborative, team-based, patient-centered care that includes both the conventional medicine and the complementary and integrative health disciplines. Dr. Goldblatt has a Masters in Public Administration/Health Administration (MPA/HA) from Portland State University, Portland, OR, and earned her PhD from UCLA, Los Angeles, California, US.

Meet Your Faculty

Zohray Talib, MD

Zohray M. Talib is Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Chair of the Department of Medical Education, and Professor of Medical Education and Medicine at the California University of Science and Medicine. Her experience spans the field of medical education and global health, with a particular focus on social accountability in health professions education. Dr. Talib is currently serving as the Co-Chair for the National Academy of Medicine’s Global Forum on Innovations in Health Professional Education. Dr. Talib has worked with medical education programs in the US and across Sub-Saharan Africa to bring best practices, especially into low-resource settings. Her particular areas of interest include community-based education and building a robust and diverse faculty workforce for institutions in underserved communities.
