 Course Description

What is this course about?

Of the over 34 million Americans with diabetes at least 90% of them have Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) (https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/type2.html). Managing patients with T2DM is difficult for both the healthcare practitioner and the patient themselves. The disease is often multifactorial with aspects ranging from obesity and eating disorders to cardiovascular and liver diseases. Healthcare practitioners often find these patients hitting a wall and are uncertain how to help their patient past it. As our understanding of the microbiome has reached new depths we see how intrinsically tied together the microbiome is with our foundational health. Diving into the ways our microbiome can influence not just basic metabolic functions, but also our liver, cardiovascular, inflammatory and mood health will help us build protocols from a firm foundation to help our patients successfully and consistently tackle the wall.
