Course Description

The U.S. healthcare system is at a critical turning point, requiring a shift from a fragmented, disease-centered approach to a Whole Health model that prioritizes well-being, purpose, and self-care. This course explores the drivers behind this transformation, examining the limitations of the reductionistic biomedical model and the growing need for systemic change.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Whole Health, how it differs from Integrative Health and Medicine, and the essential elements that define a Whole Health System. Through case studies and research findings—particularly from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)—learners will explore real-world applications, patient outcomes, and the impact of this approach on healthcare professionals and institutions.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to critically assess and apply Whole Health principles to enhance patient engagement, improve clinical outcomes, and contribute to meaningful healthcare transformation.

Pharmacist

This knowledge-based activity has been assigned UAN JA0004637-9999-25-004-H99-P and will award 0.75 contact hour of continuing pharmacy education credit in states that recognized ACPE Providers.   

Statements of participation will indicate hours and CEUs based on participation and will be issued online at the conclusion of the activity. Successful completion includes completing the activity, its accompanying evaluation and/or posttest (score 70% or higher) and requesting credit online at the conclusion of the activity.   

Credit will be uploaded to CPE Monitor, and participants may print a statement of credit or transcript from their NABP e-profile. HSC complies with the Accreditation Standards for Continuing Pharmacy Education.

Course Outline

Meet Your Faculty

Tracy Gaudet, MD

Tracy Gaudet, MD is a leader in the development of Whole Health through decades of radically re-envisioning and implementing new approaches to address health outcomes and costs. She is co-founder of a new organization called the Cornerstone Collaboration for Societal Change. Prior to this, she served as the founding Executive Director of the Whole Health Institute. Dr. Gaudet was also the Founding Executive Director of the Veterans Health Administration’s National Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation. This Office led VHA’s transformation to Whole Health, an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and live their most meaningful life. Under her leadership, VA health care delivery has been re-envisioned and is being implemented nationally. Previously, Dr. Gaudet was with Duke University Health System, where she served as Executive Director of Duke Integrative Medicine until 2010. Under her leadership, Duke Integrative Medicine created a state-of-the-art healthcare facility dedicated to the transformation of medicine through the exploration, demonstration, and research of new models of patient-centered care.
