Course Description

The Whole Health approach is transforming healthcare by shifting from a disease-centered model to a person-centered, integrative framework. This course explores how Whole Health principles can be applied to chronic pain management and systemic healthcare transformation through multidisciplinary collaboration, value-based care, and leadership in Whole Health advocacy.

Participants will review successful Whole Health programs, discuss barriers and opportunities for scalability, and explore the future of Whole Health within evolving healthcare systems, including the role of AI and integrative care models.

Statements of participation will indicate hours and CEUs based on participation and will be issued online at the conclusion of the activity. Successful completion includes completing the activity, its accompanying evaluation and/or posttest (score 70% or higher) and requesting credit online at the conclusion of the activity.   

Credit will be uploaded to CPE Monitor, and participants may print a statement of credit or transcript from their NABP e-profile. HSC complies with the Accreditation Standards for Continuing Pharmacy Education.

Meet Your Faculty

Rachel Abrams, MD, MHS, ABFP, ABOIM

Rachel Carlton Abrams, MD, MHS, ABFP, ABOIM graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University, received her Medical Degree at the University of California San Francisco as well as a Masters Degree in Holistic Health and Medical Sciences from the University of California Berkeley. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine. She is the Board Chair of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and has been a Board member of the Academy since 2019 (AIHM.org), leading in the areas of education, DEI initiatives, and ethical leadership.

Catherine M. Baase, MD, FAAFP, FACOEM

Dr. Baase’s professional life has been devoted to improving the health of populations at scale, building the evidence base and practice of upstream actions and acting as a steward of system change.   Catherine Baase retired from her role as Chief Health Officer and Global Director of Health Services for Dow, a position she held for 20 years of her 32 years there.  Under her leadership, their health programs were extensively recognized for their innovation and achievement around the world.  She has co-authored 50 publications and received many awards for leadership in the health field.  Throughout her career, Dr. Baase has been involved across the landscape of health including: public health, healthcare, health policy, health promotion and occupational health.   

Cara Feldman-Hunt, MA, NBHWC

Cara has been in the field of Integrative Healthcare since 2008 and is passionate about health equity and incorporating integrative health practices through education, clinical practice, research, and policy. She is the Associate Director of The Osher Center for Integrative Health at the University of Vermont. Cara develops partnerships, programs, and strategic initiatives to make whole health accessible for all. Cara’s background is in organizational development; she has worked in large corporate settings, small start-ups, non-profits, and educational institutions, developing systems and implementing programs. Cara received her MA from Columbia University, Teachers College in Organizational Psychology, and her BA in Psychology from Ohio Wesleyan University. In 2017, she completed the Leadership Program in Integrative Healthcare at Duke University, and in 2019 she completed the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) in 2020. Cara currently serves on the Board for the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health.

Russell Greenfield, MD

Russell H. Greenfield, M.D. is Sr. Physician Consultant for the Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation for the Veterans Health Administration and maintains a private consultative Integrative Medicine practice. In addition, Dr. Greenfield is a member of the Whole Health Education team for Cornerstone Collaboration for Societal Change. Previously he served as Sr. Director of Employee Whole Health for Whole Health Institute (WHI). Immediately prior to joining WHI he was Physician Executive and medical director of Integrative Medicine for Novant Health, with headquarters in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, N.C.Dr. Greenfield completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center as well as Chief Resident Fellowship at the same institution. After moving to Charlotte, he became involved in the Emergency Medicine residency program at Carolinas Medical Center and was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was one of the first four physicians to graduate from the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at The University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1999. He is Board Certified in both Emergency Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.

Mary Kreitzer, PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP

Mary Jo Kreitzer PhD, RN, FAAN is the founder and director of the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota where she also serves as a tenured professor in the School of Nursing.  She has served as the principal investigator or co-principal investigator of numerous clinical trials focusing on mindfulness meditation with persons with chronic disease including studies focusing on solid organ transplant, cardiovascular disease, chronic insomnia, diabetes, and caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Recent studies include the use of social technology to enhance healing and wellbeing and the impact of mindfulness on brain-computer interface performance. Dr. Kreitzer has authored over 150 publications and is the co-editor of the text Integrative Nursing 2nd Edition published in 2019 by Oxford University Press. She earned her doctoral degree in public health focused on health services research, policy and administration, and her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing. Dr. Kreitzer was named in 2020 as one of the 100 most influential health care leaders in Minnesota by MN Physician. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing,  a distinguished policy fellow in the National Academies of Practice and a Fellow Ad Eundem of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
